Keep in mind that in the mid- to late-sixties, using profane language in the US was not smiled upon...  using shoot or dang or flipping....  so altering dick to be dork seems reasonable alteration to soften it up.

The etymological notion that it came from some south american term for whale penis was debunked as a hoax or exaggeration

I don't think he was calling me a dick ...cause he said I'm friendly when someone call someone else a dick isn't it the opposite of friendly, it don't make sense in the context. Does it?

The word has morphed to something else these days - but I was just giving its origins.  Dick is quite negative, while dork is a little nerdy. 

People change words so they can curse without offending others.

There are so many other connotations to being called a dick or dickhead - as in the head that has no brain or no common sense and at times goes places it shouldn't, maybe literally but probably figuratively. And goes off half-cocked, which brings the image of a gun with a hair-trigger into the picture, reacting before it thinks, premature ejaculation and/or arousal, or frequent ejaculation as in the guy who unloads the whole magazine on the magazine when if he had waited and taken better aim had made the kill, had a real sex partner. The arousal that won't go away until it gets its orgasm. The wounded pride that won't go away until it gets into a fight. The elephant in the room that everybody ignores. The guy with the erection tenting his pants at a party. With Viagra there are a lot more elephants in the room. The rocket that stands tall and firm and fires off its load and reaches outer space, but then is totally spent. To do it again you have to build a whole new rocket. For many women, being a dick means thinking like a man, acting like a man, being a man, including the horny teenager who must get into her pants and the dirty old man that drools at the mouth when he sees something pretty and the power executive or salesman that always gets his way or his sale or the ordinary Joe which they dismiss as a jack-off (JO). The imagery even goes back to men's assessments of women as the woman who wears the pants in the family or being pussy-whipped by a girl wearing a strap-on.

There are so many phallic references to human behavior that it must be a cultural thing and one that crosses all cultures. With the obelisks and minarets and church towers. The Stonehenge circle jerk with the stars. The kings staff and crown, the symbols of his of his power and authority. The bishops miter and crozier. The warrior's raised sword, nearly all weapons, for that matter.

I would love to meet lots of you guys, but if I had to give one answer it would be Chairman. Both for the discussions, but also for him being the CP encyclopedia that he is/was. Bet he had a lot of stuff to tell, that he hasn't revealed on here, damn I miss him on here.

An absolute PSC dream for me, would be to invite Gaki, Chairman, GLover, Sterling Archer, YLL, and OTR around to enjoy a fine afternoon and evening out on my expansive top floor balcony, overlooking my lovely wide winding river and the stunning skyline of the City Lights. With a couple of fine decanters of Louis XIII de Rémy Martin Rare Cask to keep us company, a fully stocked humidor of Davidoff Private Stock Number 7 hand-rolled cigars, and a delicious high end barbecue on the go. Ahhh, we can dream my friends. But there is nothing I would love more than this.

Thinking about it, with Chairman and Archer in attendance at the same time, one of them would likely end up going over the edge of the balcony, and plummeting to a messy death on the streets far below. That wouldn't be good, so we'd have to make a weekend of it, with Chairman taking one slot, and Archer the other.

I was thinking exactly this as you read through...  The thunderpunch would be making a reappearance.   Although I do imagine SA trying to make everyone do burpees although we were all cleverly smoking our stogies and sipping our fine cognac asking him to show us how to do it again
