Hypothetic Scenario:

You and I are unboxing a new computer to upload some new sets, when in the same .onion we always visit, a Poster delivers with what they are calling, a Manifesto which serves as a guide, detailing a plan to executing a ma55 violent event.

You pointed out, we'd be fkt like a stray dog in Chinatown. to report it knowing authorities would need to see the data. So, we can't share the intel.
I argue that we submit a ditch and dash folder, and we'd likely still get caught...

Which action have you chosen, knowing the only options are these two. All other choices sum up to bloatware?

I'm not quite sure I understand the conundrum here, and especially not your reference to bloatware or a "ditch and dash" folder.

Let me seek clarification.

Hypothetically....

You've become aware of someone's design, whether it may be an actual plan or not, to commit a violent act. However, the only reason you're privy to this information, is because you yourself are involved in criminal activity that is linked to the place this design was posted. So you would like to warn authorities of this plan, but without incriminating yourself?

I think you're making a faulty assumption thinking that law enforcement would need access to the data in order to take the threat seriously. I suppose it depends on where in the world you are at, but I cannot think of any nation where the police don't take a "better safe than sorry" approach to such things and investigate and respond to all types of threats, even if they basically know it's bullshit. In the U.S. for example, it's practically routine for students to call in fake bomb threats for one reason or the other, but it always results in an evacuation of the school.

Secondly, I'm not understanding why you could not simply provide them with the 'data' (the manifesto), without the necessity of them viewing any .onion site you may be associated with. If the manifesto itself contains potentially jeopardizing material, you can redact it as necessary before sending it along to the authorities. On top of that, you could also use some kind of proxy between you and the information reaching authorities. By 'proxy' I don't mean a proxy server, but something akin to a journalist. They make a priority out of protecting their sources, and this would also provide another layer of separation between you and the authorities, since the journalists could only pass on along to law enforcement what information you provide to them.

Lemme know if I've misunderstood the situation and proposed a solution that wouldn't work and why.

on the rocks

Jesus, this is dark.

So the question is do nothing a people die or try and alert authorities at great personal risk for being outed as a pedo because the information came from a pedo site?
The part that's throwing me is why would someone declare such an intention on a pedo site of all places?  I would wager such a thing has never happened before.  Messages about impending self harm; sure, I've seen a few of those over the years.

I think the whole premise is moot as LH pointed out just a few of the many options to retain one's anonymity while still letting someone know who can potentially intervene.

Regardless, thread moved to Off Topic.
It's never so bad that it can't get worse.
