Ohio woman sentenced to 51 years for trading 11-year-old daughter in exchange for heroin

An Ohio woman was sentenced to 51 years to life for allowing her 11-year-old daughter to have sex with her drug dealer to feed her heroin addiction, court officials said.

April Corcoran, 30, of Pleasant Plain was convicted of 27 felonies that include horrific charges related to trafficking in persons, complicity to rape, corrupting another with drugs and endangering the welfare of a child.

Corcoran pleaded guilty June 9 for the disgusting crimes she committed along with her dope peddler and codefendant Shandell Willingham in March 2015.

Willingham, 42, is accused of 26 felony counts that include rape, gross sexual imposition, trafficking in persons and pandering sexually oriented materials involving a minor. The defendant allegedly videotaped the atrocious sex acts in his apartment.

Prosecutor Katherine Pridemore said the crimes the doped-up degenerates committed were so heinous she had trouble reading some of the facts in court.

"She didn't have the cash or the means to buy her heroin anymore from her drug dealer, so she offered up her child," Pridemore said in a press conference.

"We all know drugs make you do things but at the same time, to offer up your child and you are the mother, it's unfathomable."

Corcoran's attorney James Bogan said prosecutor's offered his client a plea-deal which they rejected.

"My client does wish to take responsibility for her actions," Bogan told reporters. "She does not wish to have her daughter go through further trauma by having to testify at trial. She knows that a sentence that amounts to life in prison is a very realistic possibility."

The crimes the desperate dope fiends committed have drawn the attention of police and elected officials across the state who have seen a rise in heroin related crimes in recent years.

"The reason we're highlighting this today is because of the scourge that heroin has caused in our community," said Hamilton County prosecutor Joseph Deters.

Last year, 298 Hamilton County residents died of heroin overdoses, Deters said.

Ohio Attorney General Mike Dewine said that this case of human trafficking, the first Hamilton County has prosecuted in state court, was "just about as bad as anything I've ever seen."

"Heroin destroys families," he said. "Heroin causes people to care about nothing but feeding their habit."

Pridemore said the victim is now living with her father and stepmother outside the area.

"She is doing as well as could be expected," Pridemore said. "But when you're that old and these atrocities have happened to you, I think she'll always carry that with her."

Willingham is scheduled to appear in court August 10.

What more can one say, I feel sorry for the girl.
Death: THERE ARE BETTER THINGS IN THE WORLD THAN ALCOHOL, ALBERT.
Albert: Oh, yes, sir. But alcohol sort of compensates for not getting them.

Metamorphosis

This story is quite ambiguous to me, not at all to support drug abuse, or using a child as means to support that habit. Seems like a lot of hot button pushing, Heroin, child prostitution, sex abuse. What exactly made this case so horrifying, beyond anything else she had seen? Sounds like an attempt to brand pedophilia with degenerate behavior across the board. Certainly sounds like a horrible environment for a child, I hope she ends up okay, I don't really think she will fare much better in the hands of the state. Hopefully she can shed the stigma of being damaged, I really think in these sort of situations there is a double misfortune for a child.

To be honest it says more about heroin addiction than about pedophilia. And I must admit being "sold" to be raped by your own mother for heroin must be one of the worst experiences a child can have.

Remember, we are seeing this through the eyes of the "reporter" that decided to write this up - not the prosecution or judge.  The Court Sentencing documents would surely be far more than the 3 or 4 sentences that were cherry-picked for this story, so please do not equate the asinine choices a so-called reporter made in what to report with the seriousness and gravity of this case.

Again, forget about the 'buzzword bingo' of emotive words...  consider the horror this child must have gone through.  And the charges were only the culmination of the horror tale that she lived.  Surely this was not something that 'just happened' but the result of years of plunging into depravity, selfishness and neglect that this poor 11 yo had to suffer...  Meaning perhaps since she was 7 or younger she has had to deal with her mother's horrible neglect, habits and potentially exposure to behavior that no child should really be exposed to....  This was the 'tip of the iceberg', so please do not not reduce the seriousness because we, as a group, can be potentially 'labelled'... this is horrifying. :sadno

She is living with her father and step-mother, she is not in the hands of the state.  I also do not think this has anything to do with 'pedophilia' but rather out-and-out rape.  This was not her choice, this was nothing she would have chosen for herself under normal circumstances.  The dealer may or may not have been a pedophile, but the bottom line is that he was a predator - both of the child's mother as well as her.  He took horrible advantage of them both for his own selfish gains.  She is truly a victim, but she can rise above it with appropriate counseling and support for a loving family.

I have no doubt the other two have been suffering many facets of mental illness and addiction that brought this on, but they understood their choices and the mother was sane enough to realize that what she did was wrong and to simply face up to the consequences.  At 30, with a 51 year sentence, she may well get out with parole...  It is sad to think that she will probably not get the appropriate help she needs in prison, but this was not something that I relished reading.

For those who understand, no explanation is necessary... for those who do not, none is possible.

Certainly very disturbing, I did not intend to be making light of it.

As horrific as this is, it really get bad because I've been told a fix can be had for less than five dollars US due to glut of heroin in the market. But I do concur that this has less to with pedophila then out and out rape.

This really does not seem relevant to this forum.  Of course any stories which hint at potential child-love belong here, and I can understand posting articles about people who have been known in the online pedo community (even sick bastards who don't show much love to children), but it seems counterproductive to attempt to link to every story (or random stories) of rape or violence against children.

Drug addiction and abuse are horrible, the desperate situations such people can get themselves in can be horrible, neglecting your child or passing them around as a commodity is horrible.  Not much more to say on this one, hopefully the little one can recover.

Metamorphosis

I actually disagree, I think posts like these are important to be aware of. It gives a window into what is happening, and how others are exposed to this piece of us.

Cases like this also play a role in how we are viewed by society, like it or not, cases like this impact us as well.

"This piece of us"?  Unless you're referring to humanity as a whole...

I perceive this section as being intended for stories to which we can somehow relate, and I would hope that anyone who would mistreat a child to this degree would never even be approved as a member here.

Probably won't be the last time this kind of thing happens.  Herion is a huge problem where I live.  Most of the prostitues in my country are herion addicts.  Some get insanely desperate, and I am sure some are single mothers.

In my more conspiracy minded moments I've wondered if the United States knocked over Afganistan in part to restart the global flow of herion.
