Thanks, mystique. I believe this to be a potentially invaluable tool for our members in what they decide to do, and help prepare those who are facing legal action. It may even push some into moving to a less restrictive country, one where the penalties are less draconian than where they currently live. Mainly it's a copy and paste job, but it needed a lot of reformatting. This one is going to be long-term, I believe.

God it was a bit of a depressing read how loose some of those interpretations were...  and I could see so many 'crossover' charges that could be made - possessing CP, inciting minor to sexual activity...

The one that kinda shocked me was the 14 year sentence for having sex in front of a minor - I wonder how many parents are aware of this!  If their  child glibly goes out and says they saw their parents 'do it' - there were not many considerations for this accidental contact - and forget about the scare-mongering that could be done saying of course it was not 'accidental'.

I feel beaten after reading this.

If it's depressing just reading parts of it, imagine what it felt like immersing myself in it.

There are a lot of laws there which crossover, where a person may be charged for 2 or 3 things from one act. Sadly this is the way the law works in the UK, the USA, and a number of places. Take possession of CP. One charge for each level of image possessed, occasionally more than one charge per level (eg - Making, Possession, etc), then add in a couple of more charges for related things, and you're pretty much screwed, but its saving grace is that first offenses are usually on the lower end of the scale, and usually served concurrently. Usually...

I think most parents would be able to get away with saying they were walked in on by their child, depending on what that child says to others. I don't think it's a common occurrence for this charge to be used, but it is there, although I think the 14 years is for involving a minor in the sex acts, not just for allowing them to see them.
