A quick thinking 11-year-old girl is being credited with saving her younger sisters and herself from a stranger's unwanted attention, Saturday.

police say the young Barrie girl and her two sisters, aged eight and six, were walking home from a convenience store in the Ardagh Bluffs area, when a man approached them and attempted to lure them into his car.

"Because of her quick thinking and street-smarts, she did everything right," said Const. Angie Butler of the Barrie Police Service. "Not only did she not panic, but she took care of her sisters in a very tense situation."

On her Facebook page, the mother explained the man kept "following them and calling them over to the car. The last attempt was on our street, feet from the school and just feet away from us. At the moment he was opening the door to take them, two people appeared and our oldest yelled for help."

With the help of the two passersby, a neighbour was able to obtain the car's license plate number and police caught up with the 27-year-old man Stayner man late Sunday night.

He was arrested and has been charged with criminal harassment.

Its sad when I see youths buy into the stranger danger thing, It shows them being so brain wahsed.  I bet it was a family member and there is a custody dispute. No link due to it being tor unfriendly

AWAWAW

If it was just a story about someone calling out to some kids from their car then I might have wondered if it was just stranger fear gone haywire, I mean he could have just been lost. But the opening the car door part and following them is a step beyond that.

As much as we know the media sensationalize so much, there are some pretty screwed up people out there, and those actions are not in line with what a normal person would do in today's climate. I for one would never follow kids in my car and then open my car door towards them, even if I was lost. And if it was a genuine issue then when some adults came along I would not leave the scene, I would ask them for help instead or at least explain I wasn't trying to kipnap the kids.

Maybe it was just a relative, but if it was just a relative then a number plate check would have revealed that surely and it probably wouldn't have made the news as custody dispute stuff happens a lot. Hard to say on that one without knowing more, as it could just be a vindictive Mom wanting an ex to get some trouble.
