I have been perusing Tumblr for the past few weeks. It used to be a place that was loaded with CP and various communities that are taboo. It appears they have been successful in purging CP, but some people still post about some strange stuff - eventually Tumber kills those blogs.

There are communities of paraphiles and "radqueer" on Tumblr. I assume it is mostly made up of younger people. I do not see a MAP (Minor Attracted Person) community. However, the paraphiles and radqueers are pushing for more fringe sexual behavior. Of course, at this point they would all condemn actual adult child sexual interaction, but they seem to be accepting of people attracted to children.

Is there anyone on PSC involved in these communities?

"Loaded" with CP huh? I always hear that about clear-net places. Supposedly it was rampant on PornHub before moderation too. I've never noticed there being much on either. Not that I browse Tumblr much.

Never saw cp on tumblr but then again never tried looking for it as I used my phone for that.

As goes anything with the internet for 30 years; the early 'lawless' days of any given platform, one could find on topic dating all the way back to the alt.whatever.nerdshit days.  It's just the lifecycle of any online platform.  Perhaps now it's easier to hit the ground running blocking pedo content, but it used to always be a reactive thing, not a proactive thing.

The thought police are getting better at their job as time goes on.
It's never so bad that it can't get worse.

The crazy thing is how much of that content is still on newsgroups

I abandoned newsgroups around 20 years ago when they became overwhelmed by spam and trolling.

But surely any ISP (under orders from local law enforcement) will be able to trace exactly who is reading what?

The world ended when Tumblr rejected porn istg

TooLittleTime

Tumblr banned porn in 2013. Up to that point, the level of CPish content was growing quite rapidly.

To be clear, CP on Tumblr was of the R rated variety. Topless, sexy girls partially nude, dress ups, a lot of model stuff. Still, very clearly underage. Really good wank material for anyone with an imagination :) But no contact, no blatent porn, just sexy girl stuff. Was an eye opener as far as how popular it was for all the muggles out there. It all collapsed very rapidly, and from there Tumblr collapsed as well, though much more slowly.
I have always liked broken things.

In 2018-19 I saw the most hardcore CP on Tumblr. The same content I was seeing on the dark web. Not movies, just pics and gifs. I thought about how foolish the people were sharing this stuff on a platform like Tumblr.

I really appreciate everyone sharing their experiences. I have always heard about CP being a problem on Tumblr, but then I wouldn't dare look into this more despite how curious it made me. At the time I wasn't even using Tor to collect from onions. Even if I just started using Tumblr in hopes I just happen across it, well, there's a risk of my clicking into a dangerous rabbit hole, I wouldn't be able to resist it and any way I engage it exposes me to getting in trouble. So it's a risky way to get CP, and an even crazier time suck to find anything.

I know every news organization always reports things as exaggerated as they can. Like you call it "raping a child" when a 17yo dates someone older. So, if it's "there's CP on Tumblr" I just naturally assume the most mild interpretation of that, so basically groups of artists exchanging mild lolicon. I'm surprised to hear that there really was various levels of CP on Tumblr. You mean the news wasn't lying this time? Weird. Boy who cried wolf shit.

The interesting thing about getting on Tor near the start is I missed every wild west, moral panic phase of every platform that has launched since YouTube.  It was never worth my time or worth the risk.  Why walk thru a sketchy neighborhood for some pork rinds when I got thick, juicy chops fresh off the grill right in front of me, you dig?
