Suspicious TOX Contact

Just a heads up to those using TOX. I just had someone contact me and then asked where they register. When i said they had already been here they claim they haven't ever been to this site, which is the only place i have my ID listed. So either they have been here and are denying it, or someone here gave the person my ID. Some of the questions were kind of suspect as well. asked about interests, then proceeded to ask for a pic. I have included their tox public key which is the longest part of the tox id so everyone can watch for it.

Appologies for my ignorance but what is TOX? Genuinely don't know and want to make sure I protect myself if I ever end up there. Thanks!

Its a messaging app that has no ties to any personal data. It can be tunneled through tor for added security. Thats what the ID is for under some posts like mine

I had my tox key showing for long, but I don't anymore. That's the reason. Too many people who are just lurking, aren't even a member yet and they already send a tox request. At times, I accepted just to ask them who were them, where did they found me and so on, but meh... My advice? Don't leave your tox ID on your signature like that. If there's someone you really wanna talk to, reply their post with your tox, but don't leave it out in the open for everyone. There's no need and, most people who will ad you, you know totally zero about, sometimes not even a PSC intro, you might not even wanna talk to anyone like that. Much less to reveal personal detail.
So yea. It is a resource. It is not against the rules. But use it with moderation and caution.

Not really. It's just more "real-time" instead of relying on the forum PM system. It does have its risks though so it's still important to be careful with what is said. unlike forum posts, once you hit sent, you can't take it back.

It would be wise to treat forum posts in the same manner; you may stop future distribution of the message you sent, but it is very possible another party - law enforcement, for instance - saved the post prior to removal.

This is exactly why I don't have my TOX in my profile.

Just about anyone who comes here can see it and thus message you randomly. I prefer to only give my TOX to people I trust and thus those of you who have earned that privilege of having me in their contacts on TOX can consider themselves trusted members of this place.

What's the deal with the clouds? I can't seem to find anything on what they represent and what the number of clouds is for.

The amount of clouds correlates with the amount of posts you made, similar to stripes on an army uniform; higher ranks get more clouds.
